What is Bifen IT Liquid Insecticide?

Bifen It Liquid Insecticide
The Bifen IT Liquid Insecticide

Bifen IT liquid insecticide is a 7.9% bifenthrin-suspended concentrate insecticide. This product is a synthetic pyrethroid that works by interfering with the insect’s nervous system and controlling many different species of insects.

We typically recommend it primarily for indoor and outdoor use to control fleas, cockroaches, spiders, mosquitoes, and even wood-destroying insects, like carpenter ants and termites.

Bifen IT liquid insecticide is a suspended concentrate, which means that when it is diluted with water, it will need to be agitated frequently.

So if the solution is not agitated, it can settle to the bottom of your sprayer and make it very difficult to get a proper mix again.

How To Use Bifen IT Liquid Insecticide

The Bifen IT liquid insecticide is not intended for broadcast spray and can clog the intake of your applicator. It’s endorsed only as a crack and crevice treatment.

It’s also important to note that widely used products like Bifen IT liquid insecticide can lead insects to develop resistance to this chemical.

Repeated use of this product with decreasing signs of effectiveness can be an indication of resistance.

It is recommended to use Flex 10-10 or Novacide to control pests. Flex 10-10 can be used both indoors and outdoors as a broadcast spray, while the Nova side is suitable for indoor use as a cast break.

Novacide has an insect growth regulator in its formula. Using these products periodically can help minimize pest concerns.

This means that Bifen IT liquid insecticide not only kills adult pests but also inhibits the growth of younger pests to eliminate them before they can mature.

Note: Before using, ensure to wear proper personal protective equipment, or PPE.

How to Mix Bifen IT Liquid Insecticide

To mix Bifen IT liquid insecticide, fill your sprayer with water to the desired level, then add one to two fluid ounces of Bifen IT per gallon of water, depending on the level of infestation and the type of pest you are targeting.

Always follow the label directions for the proper mix rate and avoid over-application, as this can decrease the product’s effectiveness.

Bifen IT liquid insecticide comes in a squeeze-and-measure bottle. To measure with the squeeze bottle, remove the cap from the smaller measuring reservoir and squeeze the bottle.

Use the measurement lines on the reservoir to collect the required amount. Fill your sprayer halfway with water, and then add the product to the rest of your water.

Thoroughly agitate your sprayer, and you’re ready to apply. Be sure to repeatedly agitate your sprayer, as the product will settle over time.

It is typically used as an outdoor broadcast break, but it can also be used as a barrier spray around structures, including around your windows, around doors, and along eaves.

Any other entry points, such as weep holes and where electrical and plumbing penetrate the wall, could even be used for termite treatments, or it can be used indoors as a crack and crevice and baseboard spray.

When to Apply Bifen IT Liquid Insecticide?

You can apply Bifen IT liquid insecticide with either a pump sprayer, a hose and sprayer, a backpack sprayer, or a spray rig for large-volume applications.

Apply Bifen during calm days when rain is not in the immediate forecast, and keep all pets and people off the treated areas until they are dry.

Bifen IT has a residual of up to 90 days. We typically recommend spraying quarterly for preventive control.

Conclusion

Bifen IT is not an instant kill. Once the insect comes into contact with the chemical, it can take a few hours for it to die, depending on the targeted pest’s life cycle.

You may need to reapply after 14 to 21 days, as most active investigations require multiple products to control.

For complete control over each insect, our treatment method includes an insect growth regulator and a beat or dust. Thank you for reading!
