Dog Food Scoop: How Accurate Is Its Measurement?

Sometimes it can be difficult to get the right measurement of food for your dogs, as it can sometimes be over or below the requirement and that is where the dog food scoop comes in.

After reading this article, you will find out that this equipment does not always promise a precise measurement, but it definitely will come in handy.

What Does a Dog Food Scoop Look Like?

A dog food scoop looks more like a trowel or a dustpan. It is usually made of plastic and has a handle that can be held when scooping the food from the bag or storage place.

The surface on which the scooped food will rest is supported by two sides (right and left) to prevent the scooped food from falling off.

Note that it can be round sometimes, depending on the design purchased.

Is a Dog Food Scoop Good?

Here we will be finding out if the dog food scoop is good for your dog food measurement.

To do this, we introduced:

  • 4 measuring cups
  • 2 dog food scoops
  • A couple of common kitchen ingredients:
    • Garri (the African name for the flour of fresh, starchy cassava roots)
    • Flour
    • Rice
    • Sugar

To ensure we were on track, the grains were all measured on a digital scale to have at least an initial value of the weight of the kitchen ingredients before trying them out with the measuring pieces of equipment.

We are not saying that a dog food scoop is bad, but we would advise the use of a digital scale to get precise and correct measurements, as the latter may give carrying results.

Back to our experiment. Now everything was set, and it was time to carry out the test.

Trust us when we say we were in for a shock, as each piece of measuring equipment gave varying results. Does this mean that these results are wrong? Does this mean that the dog food scoop is faulty? No! No! and No! again.

Here is what happened. The results ought to vary due to the following factors:

  • The size of the grain or dog food to be measured
  • How you scoop the food matters.

Note: We are not saying that the dog food scoop is bad for the measurement of dog food, but it will always vary. That is what we are saying.

If you are someone who is concerned with having a more precise measurement, we suggest you use a digital scale, which can be purchased at an affordable price on Amazon.
